New York Times best-selling author William J. Bennett uses stories, essays, historical vignettes, and contemporary profiles to explore and explain what it means to be a man. Fashioning men has never been easy, but today it seems particularly tough. Boys need heroes to embody the everlasting qualities of manhood: honor, duty, valor, and integrity. Without such role models, boys will naturally choose perpetual childhood over the rigors of becoming a man—as many women, teachers, coaches, employers, and adults in authority can quickly attest. Have we forgotten how to raise men, how to lead our boys into manhood?

In The Book of Man, Bennett charts a clearer course, offering a positive, encouraging, uplifting, realizable idea of manhood, redolent of history and human nature, and practical for contemporary life. Like his classic, The Book of Virtues, Bennett uses profiles, stories, letters, poems, and myths to bring his subject to life, defining what a man should be, how he should live, and to what he should aspire in several key areas of life.

  • Judging by implication, assuming im contributing to vampires, then claim i cant face reality. Thanks for the laugh son.

  • @86PIGamer

Speaking of not being enlightened, apparently you support the Bennets of the world by implication. How does it feel to be complicit in contributing to the power of a parasitical vampire? Or it is too much for you to face the reality of my post?

  • We are all thankful for people serving our country but you are being paid ( i'm not debating if the amount is enough) so it is a job like other people who work for a living , most of us don't get "thanks for working" comments, "you serve" so you can get paid, if you don't like it go get another job,

  • Bennet says that the people at Occupy Wall Street are unmanly because they "want a handout". Yeah, we all got robbed by Wall Street and our government but we should just be manly, drink beer, and watch football. I guess manly is the cops macing handcuffed women in the face. I'm an Iraq War veteran and I think I've earned the right to give a hardy "fuck you" to Mr Bennet

  • I don't trust any advice from liberals but I REALLY DO NOT trust utter garbage like this that is spewed out by the loony Religious Right. Bill Bennett has the answers to nothing.

  • Not surprised by the "enlightened" comments, especially Wytchfinde.

    He's an especially eloquent speaker.

  • Any book that can help today's man do better (and while I feel like I can do a better job, I'm told I do pretty good), I would highly recommend! Especially John Eldredge's stuff...

  • I wish you would clean up these comments

  • Fucking mangina. Man up.

  • Fuck you, William Bennett, you fucking cocksucker of a mangina. Man up? How about women doing their share. Instead, both the liberals/feminists and the Neocons have ruined everything for men in this country and any hope for a happy life and now you talk about values and integrity? Please die the fuck off you loser.
