PepperSpray video Ottawa 27may09

An Ottawa police officer pepper sprays a member of the Witness Group attempting to photograph two other officers chasing and knocking down a demonstrator at the CANSEC arms trade show at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa on May 27th, 2009. Witness Group members noted that over 50% of Ottawa Police officers at this event did not wear name tags, despite Ontario Solicitor General rules requiring officers to have them so that public sanction of the use of force by the Police is matched by accountability for use of force by the Police.

When the police are arresting a guy on the road and have their backs turned to the crowd and 3 or 4 people are running towards them, the officer did the right thing and sprayed them. Interferring with an arrest is an offence.

There is no reason why those people couldn't have just stood back and taken all the pictures or video they wanted. If the officers were wrongfully arresting someone then you'd have all the evidence you'd need instead of a face full of tears.

I have been in the grips of ottawa police and let me tell you WOMEN don't go out to a bar by yourself you become the laughing stock of the entire bar and a very easy target especially to the cops
