  • The composer is Brian Mills, who teaches at Assumption University in Bangkok. The score is unpublished, so you will have to contact Brian for a copy. If you can't locate him on email, write me and i will send you his address.

  • Further to ecmcomichael:

I am doing a lot of research on embouchure focus and find that the more you do, the more you CAN do. I also free buzz, mouthpiece buzz, and work at high volumes with a practice mute.

  • Wow! basstrb3, you are flat out awesome! Who could imagine that trombone and tympani could mesh so well. Great job! And I have to comment positively on your incredible range and intonation! First class! What make of instrument do you use? I play tenor trombone myself and play high notes well and am not sure I want to affect my emboucher by focusing on the low notes so often reserved for bass trombone. Thanks for posting this - just incredible!

  • I appreciate your comments! Well, I am 63 years old and have played for 53 of them: I teach trombone at Mahidol University College of Music in Thailand and play with the Thailand Phil [TPO.] My instrument is an Edwards B454 with in-line Thayer valves and [at the time] the Schilke D6.0 mouthpiece; I now play the LOUD LM30 mouthpiece.

I wouldn't back away from low notes; I play fake tones, double pedals, super notes up to and past super Bb everyday.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you want the sheet music or want to contact Dr. Mills, let me know and I will forward his details...

  • Bravo - Fantastic playing!

As a Timpanist, I struggle finding good pieces of music to play with other instruments - I would love to get in touch with the composer to buy a copy of this if you would be so kind to pass on his email? Thanks so much!

  • Hey basstrb3 :D can you please tell me what the name of the composer and the title of this great duet are? I am going to play this duet with a friend of mine who plays percussion (if we can find the sheet music) :)

  • very cool! i've never seen anything like this but it is very powerful.
