It's a "music-over". Notice how the music didn't change when it switched to a battle.

So Cloud became an onion knight. This game lacks mini-games, no CPR, no dolphin hopping, no parade march, and no trying to impress the President. It's sad he can't give you cool sword or materia.

Pretty sure there are no summons in this game, but who knows. That item may be one. I might give them a try off camera and see what happens.
