Information about Siddhipur
THASI indicates name of tree "SAL", SANAGAON refers "Small Village" & the name SIDDHIPUR given after development committee, is a village development committee of Lalitpur District which lies in the Bagmati Zone of central Nepal. Siddhipur Village is about 6 km far from Mangal Bazaar, Patan (Lalitpur) & 10 km far from Kathmandu, capital city. It lies 2500 ft. above from sea level whereas it spreads 2 km East to West & 2 km North to South where it is surrounded by Harsiddhi in South, Lubhoo in East, Tikathali in North & Imadol in West.

At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, it had a population of 5322 living in 980 individual households but now it almost more than 18000 living in 1400 individual households. It is one of the old settlements of Newars. It is typically a newar community where most of the people are Newars (Maharjan) along with few portion of Shrestha, Nemkul, Khadka, Dongol and the main language is Newari.

We can say that Siddhipur is an inhabitant of Hindu Religion because almost 95% of god &goddess related to Hindu Religion are established in each & every places of village. Newars are rich in cultures & festivals so in every month at least one festival falls. The biggest one festival called "Siddhipur Jatra (Local Jatra)" falls in Chaitra last day till 4th of Baishak (falls in mid of April) in which local worship Ganesh, Bhairab & ...

Still there is enough land available for agriculture so people are fully depends upon agriculture. The main product of this village as an export product is "SUKUL" which is simply a met made from hands. The per capita income of this village per person is too low.

It is believe that at least one person from each house has been gone to aboard due to the lack of occupation in our own country Nepal. Most of the young generations are forced to go to aboard mainly in the gulf countries like Qatar, Dubai, Saudi etc. Nowadays, most of the young people or students are moving to European countries for their further studies.

There are different national and international projects concerning for the development of village are on the constructing phase and some at finishing phase. One of the mutual projects building "Shanti Pokhari" was successfully done with the help of donation from France as well the community people's contribution and help.

"Siddhipur Peace Pond" known as "Shanti Pokhari" is located in ward no.1 of the Siddhipur V. D. C. Previously, the pond was called "Phongaa Pukhu" which was used as a dumping site with foul water. Later along with the new concept of development, its name has been changed into "Siddhipur Shanti Pokhari" with 8'6" tall metal statue of "Siddhartha Buddha" name as "Shakyamuni Buddha" on 2004 A.D. which is at the centre of the pond. The pond covers about 2000 sq. ft. The spot is a junction of eight roads from eight different directions. It stands as a central junction which acts as a traffic island. The pond will serve as a junction of physical, social and cultural values of the locals at the same time.

Physically, it remains as a traffic belt and environmental improving tool; socially, it is a place for gathering and interaction as there is a communal taps and water reservoir to serve the locals during morning and evening; culturally, the locals will pay daily virtue to worship the 8'6" tall "Siddhartha Buddha". Therefore, the pond will act as a center of peace and enhance mutual interaction among the locals. "Siddhipur Shanti Pokhari" is a result of combined consent and mutual interaction of the local CBO Siddhipur Peace and Development Center, Engineers of Nepal, Architect Sans Frontiers, Nepal and other dedicated Social Workers as well as each local villager contributed to the construction either by donating money or the labor as per their capacity and economic conditions.
