I visited Melaka in November 2007. I can't believe how different it looks from your clip. It has lots of fast food joints now and a big shopping mall. Still a beautiful but clearly being commercialised.

Now since Melaka (and Penang) has been given UNESCO World Heritage city status, the efforts to rectify the mistakes and to restore Melaka to its original glory should be seriously done by its citizens and government. Otherwise it will be listed in the UNESCO Endangered heritage list very soon. Tourism and over-commercialization can be very damaging.

Thanks for your comment. I shoot the video about 5 years ago, and since then a lot of destructions and "unappropriate" redevelopments have been going on. Everytime I re-visited Melaka recently, I feel sad and dissapointed. I wish the people of Melaka will be able to take a good care of their own heritage, without compromising good conservation and preservation principles. Otherwise their hope to get the UNESCO World Heritage recognition will be only a dream.

hi... i like the scenes and the informations very much. think that they are really useful and details... cool. yeah... i feel sad too when im there especially when there are so many issues unsolved and the whole old town is deteriorating. think a miracle is needed

Having just returned from a visit to Melaka your video brought back some fond memories of the town. You did a great job! The city still looks much the same...Old Melaka is still there (though the massive mall is now in place and open). Happy travels!
