  • sir did you build the shield on did it come with the pad? thank you.

  • @chamoco1 Some pads come with the shield. They come both ways. They're parchment.

  • i just DESTROYED my first icon that I was trying to gild. It looks like it's been through a couple of wars or something :)

Gilding looks A LOT easier on youtube when others do it :)

  • @firuinthehouse I've had my moments too, believe me! You just need to stick with it and keep at it. It helps to have someone teach you. Come to Seattle for a class!

  • Any chance of a part 2 ?

  • @Ordfruma937 I will be putting some more of these together. Forgive me for taking absolutely forever, but I hope to have more up in the coming year. Thank you for your interest :-).

  • @gilding No rush, Its only been a year :0)

  • @gilding All right, I'll just get my swimming gear and cross the Pacific, or whatever ocean(s) there may be, between Romania, Europe, and the fine city of Seattle :)

  • @chamoco1 No, the leaf doesn't stick to the pad unless there's something on the pad like a bit of oil from one's hands. It happens sometimes so you just need to degrease the pad from time to time with a bit of whiting (the calcium carbonate you use to make gesso). Sometimes static, such as from a room with strong electric heat, can cause the leaf to stick to the pad too. The majority of the time though it works just fine.

  • @cyno3ure1 Thank you. Like anything, you get used to it after a while. It isn't as hard as it looks - once you know how to do it! :-)

  • Charles, I applaud the way you confidently flick the sheet of leaf around on the pad.

I would not even attempt to do this....!

  • with surface gold leaf it wont stick to the pad at all?
