  • i don`t know if akkerman new much classical when he played with his electric with paco but from watching some vids of him playing it after he is awesome at it

  • @commando7144

Jan studied for 5 years at the Amsterdam Lyceum and his original classical training came before his emergence wih Brainbox and Focus. He played the Lute at the famous Rainbow show and this was some years before this encounter with Paco. So yes, he could have played an acoustic here, but the fact that he did something completely different makes it that much more interesting

  • Checked the Dutch comment with translator, but I am amazed the amount of negativity here. Obviously I can only guess but I believe what Jan means with pickpocket is the capability to pick ideas from variety of sources given. Like he says here Paco comes from entirely different tradition where he's been all his life. Playing with electric guitarist can be a major thing itself to some purists. Funny how the interviewer stucks into that understanding. Isn't Jan classically trained musician?

  • Jan meant that a 'pickpocket' has fast, clever and skilled hands/fingers to do his work. But that even hands like that cant compete with Paco .

Yes Jan has classical training and studied for I think 5 years at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum.

  • I'm Dutch, and almost equal in English language, so I can read and understand everything in the commentary and in the video.

Akkerman indeed shows respect for Paco's technique and says that no pickpocket can compete with that. He said that as a joke. He's very impressed with Paco and it's so fucking sad that some ppl can't see that.

And for Pan3405 who calls Jan too fat:

Who the hell cares how a musician looks? It might be news to you, but for most people it's about the MUSIC, not the looks.

  • Tx for that - Ever since i posted this clip people have been misinterpreting it. Jan has huge respect for Paco

  • Hij praat toch anders met veel respect over de Lucia. Dat hij het heeft over de zakkenroller is ook gewoon een compliment. En dan ook nog. Bijna iedereen die ouder wordt, wordt "vet". So what?

  • When akkerman was asked if he wanted to play like paco he said no that's what paco is for. That answer was priceless.

  • @KryzMasta Dat zegt iets over jou.. geloof me..!

  • @Pan3405 Dat zegt meer over jou dan over mij. ;-)
