Closing Guantanamo Bay will be an important first step toward restoring our moral leadership in the world, but President-elect Obama must also end the unconstitutional military commissions put in place by President Bush. These so-called "legal proceedings" are more akin to kangaroo courts for the unlawful ways in which they extricate confessions from abused prisoners forced to stand trial.

Watch the explanation from those who have prosecuted and defended some of these prisoners, and see why we cannot continue to deny Gitmo prisoners the rights they deserve. Sign the open letter calling on President-elect Obama to close Gitmo and put an end to unconstitutional military commissions.

  • hey america!, why is it that the military has to be the ones to point this shit out? if we really are the land of the free home of the brave, should we not lead by example in how we treat our enemies? i wil led credence to what ltc. Vandeveld stated, as an enduring freedom vet i am disgussted that this is going on! this is not what i spent most of my life in the army to defend. this is not what our founding fathers would have believed "we the people" capable of allowing. i got to go puke now!!

  • so true

  • What a disaster, a system designed to compensate for weak cases is no system at all.

    Look for 20 total prosecutions even with the new "mousetrap." Oh DOJ, what has become of you?

  • We have all been brainwashed to believe lies to instill hate within us. By making us hateful, we somehow justify injustice. We are blinded by the constant media and lies spewed to us by the government which is scientifically tuned to perfection so they can psychologically manipulate us. This is an old science and we fall for it over and over again. If we allow the government to carry out injustice abroad, it is only a matter of time before that injustice is brought home. Indeed it has already.

  • When I first heard the voice of Olberman this whole video lost validity.

  • The detainees have purposely avoided the conventions rules while on the battlefield where they were captured and now they want the protections... nice try. Unconstitutional the detainees have no constitutional protections to start with. .

  • Geneva conventions article 4 states..(2) Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfil the following conditions

  • :[

    (a) that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;

    (b) that of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;

    (c) that of carrying arms openly;

    (d) that of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

  • This is ridiculous. To make the statement "The only reason I can think of for this whole thing is provoke fear, and out of fear,we allowed worse attrocities than were comitted against us." So you are saying that to waterboard a suspected terrorist, or delay his getting out of Gitmo is WORSE than TERRORISTS FLYING PLANES IN TO THE WORLD TRADE TOWERS? Please help me understand MORON!
