An interesting look at "high tech" information systems 40 years ago (I remember using microfilm readers in college!)! This clip is from the 1971film, Toward a Better Environment, which described the work of the US Army Environmental Hygiene Agency. The Army Industrial Hygiene Laboratory was founded in 1942 at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health under the direct jurisdiction of the Surgeon General of the United States Army. It was charged with conducting occupational health surveys of Army-operated industrial plants, arsenals, and depots. The laboratory was subsequently renamed the United States Army Environmental Hygiene Agency and its mission was expanded to include support of Department of Defense preventive medicine programs worldwide. In 1994 the agency was granted its current designation as the United States Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine — known as USACHPPM or CHPPM (pronounced "chip 'em") — is a United States Army center headquartered at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, United States. It responsible for providing technical support and expertise in the areas of preventive medicine, public health, health promotion, and wellness to military units around the globe. For more, link to http://phc.amedd.army.mil/home/ . This is clipped from the 1971 Department of Defense 28 minute film, Toward a Better Environment. This film documents the efforts of the US Army Environmental Hygiene Agency to control the new problems which threaten man's environment, including pesticides and water and air pollution and also covers occupational health and industrial hygiene. The entire video has been digitized by the nonprofit Public.Resource.Org (http://public.resource.org/index.html ) in a cooperative agreement with the National Technical Information Service (http://public.resource.org/ntis.gov/index.html ) and is available at the Internet Archive at www.archive.com .
