Shock And Awe steal Wreckless Erics song "Whole Wide World" back from the Proclaimers who recently covered it doon Leith at the Meridian. It was Tommy Shocks 65th birthday and he could barely stand. Bobby Awe has a bit of a rant about the Proclaimers at the beginning. He claims to remember none of this, yet still stands by every word. Slipped in at the end is a brief homage to the Velvet Undergrounds "I'm waiting for my man". A more sober version is soon to be recorded for a Filthy Little Angels release.

  • i dont reallly like it, i ike the original best....

  • yeah, I like the original the best too. We played an acoustic set with Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby the other night, it was one of the top nights of my life.

  • why has nobody mentioned the presence of the proclaimers wee sisters in the audience

  • I think Wreckless Eric supporting the Proclaimers saying it has become their own song, and touring with them an singing it with them at several gigs including Edinburgh Castle and Inverness Bught Park, says that he obviously thinks its good. A good cover artist does not copy the song, they turn it into their own style. Come back and say your version is better when you have had 21 years of success.

  • To be honest I think the proclaimers have great taste. And compared to todays 'pop' bands they can write. BUT compared to the bands they love they are pish. And their singing voices are annoying as fuck. And I am Edinburgh born and bred.

A good cover artist does not copy the song, they turn it into their own style. thanks for the compliment !

Come back and say your version is better when you have had 21 years of success - taste is a funny thing,I love the original, I enjoyed our version

  • ours is better than the proclaimers - come back and read this in 21 years and argue the toss !

  • its a cool version

but it kind of loses all of its feeling

the slow pace gives it a great touch

but i was wondering how it would sound in this style... its interesting =]

  • at least you're doin it for all the right reasons then, eh ;)

  • The big question is - did we butcher it worse than the proclaimers or the monkees ? When I'm singing it, I mean it. We'd practiced the song once and we were drunk as fuck when we played it, but to be honest I doubt if we would have played it as well if we'd been sober and practiced it 100 times. When Craig and Charlie are singing it they mean "I wish I'd written this instead of ripping it off with 500 miles".

  • What ? really ? you have an opinion thats negative ? thats completely unheard of. I'm shaken to the bone. Thats me given up my exceptionally lucrative music business career and back to the door to door clothespeg selling business. Or maybe I should chance my arm in the kitchen of mcdonalds ?. Thanks for the reality check Hellboy2097.
