720/25P - Samsung HMX-U20BP / XEU - Brief Test

A brief test. Challenging weather.. Samsung HMX-U20. A HD handheld, in the same form factor as the Flip and countless other brands.

Setting used: 720/25P. Direct upload to YouTube.

A budget priced handheld. This Handheld works well when it is presented with the right recording conditions. The main problem for the Samsung U20 is that it soaks up light, if there isn't enough light, then there is very obvious and distracting grain\noise.

AUDIO ISSUES: I have the same problems that a lot of Samsung U20 owners are reporting. A very low mechanical grinding noise. This is supposedly related to the auto-focus mechanism.

This problem tarnishes the rather nice video specifications. Low light performance is also a problem with the U20.

Potential buyers should scout about for impartial\amateur reviews, and carefully weigh up the Pros and Cons of this video camera, before purchase.
