All my life I've been fascinated with Great Danes. After patiently researching and preparing for one, I finally got one. He was my 1st dog ever... and the BEST dog I could have asked for.

At the end of the video is footage of him being put to sleep. It's NOT graphic or disturbing. It was a very smooth & peaceful goodbye. The reason I put this on video is to show others how IMPORTANT it is, in my opinion, the put your animals down at HOME... the place they feel most comfortable. In the weeks leading up to putting him to sleep, I had so many questions of what it was going to be like, all the details, etc. I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful ending. It's not what I expected at all. I also suggest that if and when you have to go through this, to ask the vet for the "special cocktail", which means the animal gets a sedation shot BEFORE the actual injection.

Luckily, I've had some experience making videos in the past and am pleased with this finished video. I may consider doing this as a little side business. After researching, I discovered there's not many businesses or places you can go to have a video like this made. I would have people send me their pictures and videos, pick their songs, etc. After making to video, I would then send them the DVD. The last thing someone wants to do while grieving, is go through pictures and videos and sad songs and piece together a memorial video. Trust me, this took a lot of sweat and tears. I think everyone should have a video like this.... not to watch all the time... but more of a keepsake to watch now and then.

Thanks for watching! And don't forget to take lots of pictures of your pets AND video footage!!

  • This was a gorgeous video. It definitely made me cry! it made me think of my baby Dane. My Dane is almost a year and it makes me sad to know that their lives are so short. However, they make every minute count. They are the best dogs! I'm so sorry for your loss. You did a great job with Cole! He was gorgeous and he looked very well loved :)

  • @jivarvo22 thanks so much.... One of my goals with publishing this video is to REMIND people to take lots of photos... but more importantly VIDEOS! even small video clips on your cell phone here and there! Trust me, after making this video while crying nonstop over the footage, I can appreciate VIDEO footage much more than "still pics".... just because you'll always have their bark, movements, etc, on video :) Thanks again. Love to you and your young dane! Enjoy EVERY minute :)

  • DUDE, i dont remember the last time i cryed :'(

  • I never wanted a big dog - or any dog, for that matter. But a year and a half ago, a family had to give up their great dane when they moved to the west coast and I was persuaded to take her in. She has truly become my pal. We spend lots of time walking and exploring the beach. Great Danes are fantastic dogs. Gentle, affectionate and great with everyone. I now understand the connection people have with their danes. Thanks for posting your loving memorial to Cole. It was truly heartwarming.

  • I REALLY FEEL SORRY !!!

    FOR YOUR LOSS !!!

I HAVE NEVER HAD A DOG BEFORE AND PLANNING TO BUY GREAT DANE !

  • Wow. The first dog i remember getting was a Great Dane. His name was Zeus. I was 6 when my parents brought him home. He was the biggest goofball but we loved him like he was family. He lived to be 14 years old. The day we had to put him down( due to cancer) was the worst day of my life. Hes been gone almost two years now and i still tear up when i see a Dane. Danes really are the best dogs to have if you have the space. Im sorry for your loss. I feel your pain.

  • Wow, this is so weird.. Im going to get my first dane (wich alos is my first dog) and i do have a black cat that looks like yours! but yeah, your dog was amazing :-)! i hope me and my dog are getting that realtionship that you and Cole had... :-)

  • I've been lucky My Dane is 11 and still acts like hes 2 lol... Danes are the Best, sorry for your loss

  • yesterday I lost my cat, after 17 years and 7 months, I'm searching for songs to dedicate him, it's so touching waching your video, even more because now i'm on a trip far away from my house and I couldn't say goodbye to him... =(

  • You had a very wonderful looking dog. I lost my dog "Chance" on July 2nd of this year. He was 15 years old. It happened so fast, one moment he was with us then the next he was gone. But he died where he called home when we first got him, at the family cottage by the lake. He made us laugh and amazed us with his human-like personality. Our family will never be the same, but at the same time we are happy to have had him for as long as we did.

  • What a beautiful tribute to Cole! My eyes leaked while I was watching it. I will favorite this video on my channel. Thanks for the reminder to cherish every moment we have with our great danes, they are special dogs!

  • I went through the exact same thing with my dane Guido. I trained several service dogs afterwards, and now that I'm done training for other people it's time to get another dane for myself. I know how you feel.
