Comparing the GoPro HD HERO and the ContourHD1080p helmet cams.

The original video was shot and edited at 1920x1080 at 29.97fps. Same course as Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rZbiZdiZio

Both were mounted the same way, right next to each other, so the images could be compared. The FOV of both cameras is different (and it's very hard to orient both of them the same way since there is no viewfinder), so the images don't match up, but I did the best I could.

The video itself isn't very interesting (just a run of the local streets!), the point is to show how both cameras perform side-by-side. It is possible that the ContourHD I have access to may be defective as it shows massive blur on the left side...

  • What part of montreal is this !?!

  • @TheRockaSkinny I'm impressed that you recognized the city based on this uninteresting tour. The area is called "Anjou sur le Lac" and is located east of St-Leonard, north of the 40. Yes, there really is a lake in the city!

  • nice neighbourhood!! I just ordered a go pro, I also like the contour as well, its an interesting test, the contour looks like its wearing a pair of sunglasses compared to the gopro? nice edit though and interesting how much the gopro enclosure cuts out the wind noise.

  • @knoxieman yeah the color balance is different between the two cameras, you can tweak it on the ContourHD but I don't remember what it was set at (probably the default). The main issue is the blur on the left side on the ContourHD; this is a common defect but it is covered by the VHoldr warranty.

I've since got the LCD BacPac for the GoPro (and there is a new ContourHD with the live viewfinder on your Android phone), it would be easier to align them correctly now :)
