  • Through trains from the West usually use platform 8 but this wan't 'cast in stone' ... platform 4 would be used, and is still, as required. Platform 4 is more usually used, as required, for services terminating from any direction (Manchester, Leeds, Bradford & Penistone) but through services off the Penistone line have to use it.

  • Platform 4 can be used by trains in either direction - and not just for through trains ... Manchester trains can arrive and depart from there likewise Leeds trains.

  • Each day at platform 4, one transpennine express service terminates at platform 4a

  • @nicktuk159 Exactly right. Trains from or to Leeds terminate and platfrom 4a and trains to or from Manchester Victoria terminate at platform 4b

  • Its also strange, at the start the train stopped at platform 4 instead of 8. Usually the present transpennine express trains going to Hull, Scarborough, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and York via Huddersfield and Leeds stop at platform 8

  • Birchwood station was built only 10 years before this

  • From 5.45 the train stopped at platform 8 where services go to either, Hull, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Scarborough or York

  • @nicktuk159 From platform 4 trains go to Manchester victoria or terminate from there

  • Very good video

because these services are called "trans pennine??

    greeting

    gus

  • Great times! decent loco hauled trains with no plastic rubbish i sight :) i feel sorry for anyone not old enough to experience when proper trains used to run on our railways!!!
