The Foundation established the Soccer United Recovery Fund in September 2005, in partnership with Eurosport, to help rebuild soccer programs and facilities in Gulf Coast communities affected by the three massive hurricanes of 2005. The Foundation awarded $250,000 in Recovery Fund Program grants to over two dozen soccer organizations in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, working in close coordination with soccer leaders and organizations in those states.
U.S. Women's National Soccer Team defender, Cat Whitehill, a native of Birmingham, Alabama served as the national spokesperson for the recovery fund.
