Why Are Young People Liberal?

National Review's John Derbyshire tells Will Cain that young people are liberal because primitive people and cultures are largely egalitarian. In essence, young people haven't fully evolved yet. That, and...they're rebelling against their parents.

Under 30's usually vote liberal due to a combination of naivete and leftist brainwashing by their highschool teachers and college professors. Many of their teachers indoctrinate them in far left ideology, and they're not skeptical or experienced enough to dispute propaganda like "all rightwingers are racist", "if you're against govt programs, you don't care about the poor" etc;

I find this patronization of the US youth quite ironic. You speak of intelligence and maturity, while absolutely providing no substance. The young want answers, not some outdated promises of smaller government while plunging us in multiple wars.

You are out of touch and your time might have been better spent coming up with a platform; rather than scrutinizing the other side. You have no new ideas, you have nothing to offer, and that failing platform is the reason young people are liberal.

@NoviPublicAccess Almost anyone who is a conservative in America also does their best to make themselves look absurd even without Jon Stewart's help. Most anyone on AM far right talk radio or Fox "News" reveals themselves to be warmongering, homophobic, intolerant, racist, far right wing nutcases. If neocons have a bad name they have no one to blame but themselves. American neocons want to make belief in evolution a political issue. So is it any wonder they are seen as radical nutcases?

You have to also look at the media today. You can't turn on a comedy show without having liberal politics shoved down your throat. Jon Stewart does his best to make anyone who is conservative look absurd and idiotic while ignoring liberal hypocritical positions. SNL, Leno, Letterman etc. Popular news sources lean liberal and bash the one non liberal source (fox) so bad that peer pressure makes them avoid it completely. If you aren't seeking out info yourself, the info presented to you is liberal

They are unable to think for themselves. They just want to vote for Obama and the Democrats. And I find it extremely ironic that they are Liberals because liberals hate the idea of individualism, a concept that young people love. I am embarrased with my age group who would drive drunk and heil Obama simply because it is the "in" thing to do.

During my time in university, the young were preoccupied with getting wasted, playing video games, and hopping from bed to bed. Finding answers to national, global, and moral questions was not a priority.

It is artful how to pin the blame for the oils wars on conservatives. How can you possibly try to claim the moral high ground, when Obama, a liberal by any measure, has started a pointless war with Libya, nor closed down Gitmo, which he promised to do?

Simple. Young people were raised in daycare centers. Prayer forbidden in their schools. Way too much peer pressure with the overcrowded schools, different races, too many conflicting cultures influencing the kids at impressionable ages. The basic family unit doesn't function as intended and differently from the past. Decades back we had no cellphones, no car to drive for ourselves to school, no abundunt number of social outlets, drugs weren't as prevelant.
