  • Liar, liar pants on fire! How can we trust this guy to fix healthcare. He is either subscribes to the same misconseptions about physician reinbursement that so many people do, or he is flat out lying to us. Either way this is unexcuseable for him and he should apologize. The Medicare allowable reinbursement (in Tennessee) for CPT code 27880 below the knee amputation = $876.00. Feel free to check the reinbursement for that code where you live on the AMA website, its free. $50 K my ass.

  • This kind of bullshit is why everyone thinks doctors are greedy and overpaid. Some moron who doesn't know what he is talking about spouting nonsense about the profession. Oh yeah, and we should be paid "a reasonable amount" for the work we do. What is that exactly? What is a reasonable amount to make for someone who worked anywhere from 11 to 15+ years of their lives training to do a job, acquiring enormous debt along the way, and let's not forget the liability incurred during medical practice.

  • I'm diabetic of 32 years now, and I'm also an above the knee amputee. Do not set upon your thrown and belittle the disease that I have to live with everyday until you have the chance to walk in my shoes. I don't tell cancer patients how to live thier lives because I don't know what it is like to have cancer. Diabetes is a difficult disease to live with! It takes more than just simple meal plans, and properly taking medication to manage it. Your ignorance on this issue just cost you my vote!

  • If you want to cure diabetes, why don't you change all those laws with stem cells so we could actually try cloning organs. That would allow us to fix so many diseases, also with low risk of rejection. And guess what, think of all those jobs that are going to be created!

  • @CaneFu how much money?

  • @AdStudendum Maybe a few less big words and a little more argument. Okay, he's insulting the profession, but how? Using big words means you know how to use a dictionary. I would hope that ''an assiduous pre-med'' would know that big words don't make arguments.

  • If doctors get crapped on like this, it's no wonder so few people are interested in becoming them. Another 10-20 years wait until medical care is rationed because no one wanted to put up with the crap of becoming a doctor.

  • This is, without doubt, the most horrifying and insulting collection of statements a president has made in my lifetime. As the daughter of a very hard-working neurologist/neuroscientist and an assiduous pre-med student myself, I am absolutely horrified that such a noble profession, in which individuals devote their lives to rigorous study in order to improve the quality of life of man, has been subjected to such vile abuse. Such vicious anti-intellectual slander is truly disturbing.

  • WHAT?? $50k for an amputation? This president, who has made sweeping healthcare reform, obviously has NO idea how the healthcare system works. I'm going to guess the surgeon (who, btw, doesn't start his career until age 33, and works for himself, with no pension, retirement plan, etc) might make around $500. NOT $50,000. Obama is scary.

  • The last time I checked no surgeon was being reimbursed 30.000 for doing a surgery. Get your facts straight Mr. President! Physicians spend 11-15+ years training to become skilled at critical thinking and procedures. We rack of hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt while doing so and work 80+ hr weeks in order to provide care to our patients. It's a shame that such a misleading statement was spoken aloud to the general public. The economics of medicine just can't be explained this simply
