@noxnflame Do you know the microstepping setting of your controller? Backlash would not allow you to overtravel. 1 of 2 things are happening, 1 is the steps per unit is incorrect. 2 is where is this number being rounded? I think there is a setting on the gen config page of Mach. A stepper has a certain amount of steps per revolution, say 200 (as most are) if you are between these steps it will cog one way or the other. By increasing the microstepping resolution this cogging is reduced.

I have tried this on my machine running mach 3 but when i tell it to move .500" it always moves .5002" without backlash on. I don't understand why mach 3 would do that.

Another annoying question for you. How do you make sure your x and y are perfectly paralleled? I have been having trouble with this on my machine. Thanks for the great videos man, and keep up the great work.

How did you make sure that you were in the exact same plane as the Xaxis?
I lined it up with the hold down grid in the table top. The grid was drilled by the CNC itself so it is true to the axis. Thanks for mentioning this. It's a very good point.
