Will Smith plays an individual who decides to donate his bone marrow to a young man of his same race, but fails to understand that this information is kept confidential and that the odds of him matching anyone was one in one million. The fact that he handpicked this young man and was his "match" is incredibly unlikely, as well as his making the decision to donate his marrow without anesthesia which is always used. The plot of the movie was very clear that he wanted to suffer, but this kind of information portrayed to millions of viewers continues to increase the "fear factor" behind becoming a marrow donor, as well as the fact that children donate their marrow this way to their siblings, with little discomfort, and all are playing in their siblings hospital rooms that night. As well as the fact that 70% of donors donate their peripheral blood stem cells via the blood donation method of apheresis. Visit BAHBAD.Org to learn more about donation of all capacities.
