Why are we doing matam? Just use your common sense. If you're a muslim and even if you're not.. When you love someone it's natural that if he is in pain and grieve you will cry and beat yourself. It's absolutely natural. In Quran shareef Allah s.w.t says: Islam is deen e fitrat (religion of nature) Take an example of Hazrat Yakoob a.s.. He cried for his son Hazrat Yousuf a.s and lost his eyesight. Hazrat Owais e qarani broke his tooth and mourned in love of the holy Prophet Muhammad pbuh.

It should be remembered that the paternal aunt of Shimr, Umm Banin bint Kharam, was the wife of Hazrat Ali (Karramallahu taala wajhah) and whose off-springs were Abbas, Abdullah, Jafar, and Uthman and all the four brothers were accompanying Imam Husain in this encounter.
