have you guys sailed before? what type of sleeping?bathroom quarters did you have. how much food did you bring/use. my hubby REALLY wants to buy a sailboat but the only "sailing" we've done is down rivers and lake and it wasn't a sailboat! i realize it's not a weekend lesson, but how difficult is it to learn to man a sailboat alone or with a couple? looks like you had a bitchen time! many more to come!!!

Hi awake. Check out our blog for our full story (it's in the caption segment up above). But briefly, yes, I have sailed my entire life and the 38' boat was small (compared to an apartment!). You can learn how to do it, just buy a boat and give it time!

I was wondering what your average knots were? And also what are the differences between your boat and say a single hull sailboat? I am looking to sell my power boat and go into sailing and just looking for some advice.. Thanks for the videos as I have watched them all....

Hi Bassplyer. We average 5-6 knots during passages. This equaled close to 150 nautical miles a day for passages, which is very comparable to a 45 foot mono-hull. Top speed was 10 knots, and anything faster and we would hydroplane.

Hi Boliver, we did as you state, but like to think that the fish enjoyed a good drink before coming to his gruesome end. Bleeding the fish is an important part of preparing it for cooking but we did not film that part here. Thanks for commenting!

There is danger in certain places, but not where we sailed. Frankly, our apartment in San Francisco was more dangerous than where we sailed (Caribbean and South Pacific). Consequently, we did not carry a firearm.

I really enjoyed this. How expensive have you found it to live this sort of lifestyle? I had heard that once you are kitted up, it really isn't that expensive. Do you cruise full time?

I sailed across in 1983. Big time El Nino. The SE trades didn't blow until late March. Guys were taking forever to get to the Marquesas from Equador. One single hander, ran out of food, water and fuel. 80 days at sea. He tried to tow his boat in with his dingy by rowing when he finally came in sight of land. No wind, no fuel. He was spotted by a German boat the Linda that was sailing out. They brought him in. That day a research vessel, the Melville came in and treated us all to cold beer
