Set in an Italian villa, Shakespeare's hilarious and touching romantic comedy is in the capable hands of producer/writer/director and star Kenneth Branagh, who portrays the self-proclaimed bachelor Benedict, nobleman to Denzel Washington's Don Pedro, prince of Medina. Benedict bickers constantly with the independant Beatrice (Branagh's then-wife Emma Thompson), and those close to them know that they are a perfect match, and playfully conspire to bring that about. But not all machinations have such good intentions: Don Pedro's envious and evil brother Don John (Keanu Reeves) schemes to keep the beautiful and innocent Hero (Kate Beckinsale) away from her true love, Pedro's nobleman Claudio (Robert Sean Leonard), by deceiving Claudio into thinking that his lady love is untrue. Things get a bit hectic from there as emotions explode all over the place, but the truth is ultimately revealed and love conquers all. It was all, well, Much Ado About Nothing. Michael Keaton provides comic relief throughout the shenanigans as Dogberry. Patrick Doyle's overture for the 1993 film version is performed here by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
Enjoy!

  • one of Kenneth Branagh's best movies (he's made no bad ones; in my opinion, anyway). As with his other films, Branagh utilizes an all-star cast, which works wonderfully well here. He's a brilliant filmmaker.

  • Very nice slideshow! The effects are sweet! I love this adaptation! It's such a brilliant feel-good movie!
