I think they could've used the abuse as a mitigating circumstances, having been raised by abusive parents myself I honestly don't blame them, though they could've found other avenues towards coping with the pain of what happened. For example simply never talking to my parents ever, ever, ever again is what has helped me.

I think it's very possible that they were abused, although I don't think the murder of their parents were self-defense. It was probably out of revenge and money. For some reason, there's something about Lyle Menendez that bothers me. He seems so cocky and arrogant. One person even said that Lyle should have committed the murders on his own, because Erik wasn't like him - he couldn't live with what he had done, Lyle probably would never have admitted to it.
