Sometimes when people communicate on a level where the vocabulary is above the understanding of other individuals they do it because it brings mental satisfaction to the speaker because he has then conveyed his thoughts in the most efficient way he knows how. This is why I study new words. And honestly I don''t even want to add pretentious to my vocabulary because I don't roll that way : )
