As a tribute to the virtuosity, versatility and sensitivity that marked Sutherland's career, this video makes a retrospective of her life and career from her childhood to her last years, accompanied by the deep emotional impact of Sutherland's very rare "Libera Me", from Verdi's Requiem, live in 1960, under the conducting of Carlo Maria Giulini. The power, range and nuanced richness of Sutherland's voice are perfectly demonstrated in this most haunting rendition of Verdi's music, a moment that is not about fear, but about humility, hope and redemption.

Sutherland will be missed by all those who somehow felt the world was better because she, albeit being retired since 1990, was still with us. At the same time, the ocassion of her passing is the right moment for us to have a synthesis of her astounding legacy and marvel at the amazing achievements she made during more than 40 years in a large repertoire, always with commitment, talent and sincerity. May she rest in peace and laugh even more than she did on Earth with her colleagues and friends, like Luciano Pavarotti.
