ditto russdonruss. I have seen all kinds of things go wrong with the lights and nobody noticed. I have seen ONE thing go wrong with the sound ( 1 mic not working, one loose mixer power cord, etc) and all hell broke loose!
also ditto 287robot. If one tech thing goes wrong the crew gets cussed out, but if everything works great everybody wants to buy the band a drink.
@russdonruss So how do the musicians find their instruments in the dark? How do the audience find their seats in the dark? How does anyone know who you are in the dark? This is a silly argument. As a Production Manager of some 22 years, I consider all aspects of a production to be of equal importance and so should you!
As a musician, I can say unequivocally that sound is more important for a concert venue. If the musician's can't hear themselves or each other the show is doomed. If the audience can't distinguish instruments or vocals, or the EQ is bad the show will suck. If the lights go off while the band is playing no one will notice. If the sound goes out while the band is playing you will have a riot. People go to "see" the band, but what they are really there for is to HEAR the band play live...
