IER's Patrick Creighton discusses the Obama Administration's latest corporate handout to the renewable energy industry. On January 8, President Obama announced $2.3 billion in "clean energy technology" tax credits which he claims will create 17K "green" jobs and spur an additional $5.4 investment from the private sector.

Correction: Creighton stated, "The Energy Information Administration predicts that in 2050 we'll still be dependent on fossil energy for over 75% of our energy needs." The year should be 2035, we apologize for any confusion.

  • Patrick it is a proven technology...it is proven NOT TO WORK in Denmark, Germany and Spain. THis is a huge scam. If wind was so great we would still have clipper ships!

  • Don't forget folks..The first solar cell cost about $1,000,000. but as time went on, the efficient went up and the cost is way down to just a few dollars a watt.

One day everything will be down in cost and the effiiecient be way up. There are a lot of backyard projects going on that will make life better when they come on line. If Cap and Trade gets sign into law, there goes the progress we were making.

The Govt has never invented anything. Its the American people.

  • Patrick:

Thanks for speaking out on wind. Tracy and Chris did a great job as well. (Lucky Brian the watermelon wasn't the one interviewing you) People really don't understand the true cost of wind energy goes much deeper than a kwH per kwH exchange between wind and coal. To replace coal, wind needs massive hydro that we don't have, or many NG peaking stations for voltage regulation, working (and emitting) overtime to handle the skittering output of the windmills. Then there's the sprawl...
