The track wasn't prepped, but we had a fun time anyway.....most of us that is. We being: Scott McLaughlin, Joe Russell, Sean Naslund, Carl Sorenson,
Rodney Cook, Larry Pettis, Rick Severson, Screamin Steven Parker, and Don "the Dangler" Frye. There were a few others that never made it to video.

This was the first time riding for me after I had broken my hand in Oklahoma at an ISDE qualifier. I didn't do it much good. At the end of the video there is a small, shaky clip that looks like Rodney Cook riding over the big tabletop jump. If you watch the dust cloud that Rodney rides through, you will see a shadow flash through the cloud and over Rodney. That is me miscalculating the jump in a big way. I must have over jumped that thing by 30 feet and flew over Rodney's head, out of camera sight. I remember the crash vividly. Since I was just coming back from breaking my hand badly, I let go of the handlebars before making impact with the ground. Kind of like a no-handed-lander. I think it probably saved me from breaking it again, or my wrists. Even though I crashed. I don't know why Dad was laughing, but he is quite the jokester. Mom sounded justifyably concerned. Interestingly, this jump is now called the Cody Noble tabletop and we were the first people to ride on this brand spanking new jump in 1993. I think this playday occured before the season opener, so the track wasn't really broken in yet.

This is one of the few videos that I have of Rodney Cook riding, even though Rodney did a lot of play riding with us. Rodney was an interesting character. If you notice, he goes slow everywhere on the track except the whoops. Rodney loved the whoop sections. Rodney was also known for spectacular crashes and breaking his bike. This maybe explains why he isn't in many videos. His bike was always broken and he didn't have the money to fix it. God bless him.

Then there is Pettis. Pettis rode pretty smooth on this day. We were all proud of him.

Then there was Screamin Steven and Don the Dangler. At this point in time they were a little bit inexperienced on a motocross track. And screamin steven had a big 500. They both had a few close calls, but kept from crashing in front of the camera.

Carly had a pretty good day. Although these were his kind of conditions being from California and everything. Joe did a pretty good job of trying to battle with him, but didn't have much for Carl on this fine day.

I think this is one of Melton's first rides on his 125, which led to several years of racing motocross.

Then there is radical Rick Severson. I wish I had more footage of him. He showed excellent style over the tabletop and through the whoops. Almost like the fastest guy on the day, Sean Naslund.

When it was all said and done, we had a great day of riding. I am sure pretty much everyone has forgotten about it by now, so hopefully this brings us back to a point in time when life was a little more simple and a lot of fun...
