New York Rangers Win Home Opener vs. Ottawa - Salute The Garden Faithful

The salute has become a tradition that both players and fans enjoy. The tradition started after the NHL strike, as a way for the players to 'thank' the fans. The salute takes the relationship between the boys in blue and the Garden Faithful to a different level than most teams experience.

actually the tration started after a game november 25, 2005 after michael rozival scored the game winning goal in the 15th round of the shootout vs the capitals. then impromptu style the ranegrs saluted the fans at center ice. now they do it after every homewin but it all got started THAT NIGHT. ive been going ranegrs games for 33 years. its nice that they do it for the fans. just wanted to let you know how it got started. i went to every game that yr but 3 of them.

Wasn't that Malik who scored the shootout goal? If I remember correctly, he did some crazy move where he brought it through his legs & flipped if past Olie the goalie. As a matter of fact, I was sitting right behind Kolzig that night & met Ovechkin after the game when the Caps were getting on the bus! Then again, I haven't had my coffee yet!

Either way, It's a great tradition! We ARE The Garden Faithful!!!

i meant to say malik and the reason i remember it was i was 5 rows off the ice when he shot that right in front of me. why i said rozival is beyond me im just tired as i, up early LOL. u r correct though. it was his only amazing moment for the rangers.
