Flight International's Senior Editor Aimée Turner films the first in a series of A380 commercial route-proving exercises in March 2007.

The flight, which included 486 passengers and 26 Lufthansa flight attendants, took 35 minutes to board and left Frankfurt Main at its scheduled departure time of 09:00, lifting off from runway 25R.

Lufthansa's route-proving programme aims to assess check-in, boarding, disembarkation, fuelling, ground support, catering, in-flight entertainment and the on-board climate. Findings will allow operators ultimately to draw up A380 scheduled service timetables on the basis of operational forecasts.

The aircraft's route took it over Cologne, Amsterdam, the North Sea, Manchester and Dublin before heading out over the North Atlantic at around latitude 52°N. Once across the ocean it followed the Canadian coastline before passing over Bangor and proceeding to New York.

Lufthansa has a total 15 A380s on order plus five options. The airline will receive its first aircraft in summer 2009 with deliveries due to be completed in 2015.

  • Flight International's Max Kingsley-Jones reported last year that Emirates was taking two of the five A380 development aircraft including MSN007 (one of the Rolls-Royce Trent-powered aircraft that will be re-engined) and MSN009, the Engine Alliance GP7200-powered test aircraft.

.......this was the MSN007 development aircraft on a route proving flight for Lufthansa ...

  • Dear All,

i have some questions about psychology:

    (1) What do we think that in-flight meals are so interesting and special?

    (2) Why do we enjoy dining at 42000 feets high?

    (3) How do a tasteful in-flight meal make our journey more enjoyable?

    (4) What is your favorite food and drinks in the sky?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)
