Dan Patch was a famous Pacer (harness horse) at the peak of his popularity a century ago. His name became a household word partly because of his owner, Marion Willis Savage, aka "The Parson." They shared a sucessful partnership in life, and died one day apart.

  • oh thank you so much for making this about Dan Patch because i knew almost nothing about it! very sad at the end when the Parson died a day after Dan Patch...very sad, do u know if they were burried near eachother? i was just curious. great video (just like your others) 5/5 =)

  • No. Dan Patch was buried somewhere on the farm property, but the exact location was never disclosed.

  • uhhh what is 1:55 please i want to know !!!!!someone tell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyways love your videos

  • Because other owners were unwilling to race against him, Marion Savage took him around the country and put on exhibitions. He always drew large crowds, and occasional broke his own records. 1:55, though considered unofficial, was his fastest time at pacing a mile, a record that stood for 39 years.

  • i am happy to live in oxford, down the road from his old home...R.I.P Dan Patch and thanks to the Messner family for restoring and showing tours of the old barn.

  • very fine tribute to a great american Dan Patch!

  • Good job!!

  • I love the last sentence of that song <3 And it's oh so right.

  • youbad. I think that they will remember Zenyatta in 2110. However, for me, Dan Patch is much bigger a name than Zenyatta.

  • we'll see in a hundred years if anybody remembers Zenyatta? Dan Patch 1896 to 1916 and still remembered in 2010!

  • If he had today's facilities, trainers, vets and equipment, he'd fly!!!

  • The best horse of this century is - ZENYATTA!

  • in4. Yep. Dan Patch is for me the greatest horse of the 20th century.

  • I was on the United states trotting association site and viewed a film of Dan Patch, it's very old, hope you can watch it.Thanks for this beautiful video,I love Standardbreds and own three retired ones.
