Hi Quality Version = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEes1aDCuX0&feature=channel_page&fmt=18

This is the original syndicated opening for Bewitched during the black and white years (seasons 1 and 2). This opening was used in reruns from the mid 60s through as late as 2000. However when Columbia (now owned by Sony) remastered the entire series in 1992, they replaced this opening with a desaturated version of the season 3 opening. While most stations instantly began running the newly remastered version of the series, Nick at Nite conitnued airing the old versions until they finally dropped it from their line up in 2000.

In 1999, Dynacs got a hold of the black and white episodes and colorized them. However, if you're ever lucky enough to catch the series in its true uncolorized format on TV (sorry DVD owners and TV Land viewers - those are colorized episodes with the color sucked out), you will see this original opening survived being replaced in just one episode, number 66 "Follow That Witch (part I)". (I recommend getting the Columbia House VHS cassettes of Bewitched-The Collectors Edition because those episodes were put to tape before ever being colorized, With the exception of only one episode containing the original opening, they are truest cleanest prints of the first and second seasons short of 16mm original prints).

To the unaware eye, its hard to notice any difference between the season 3 opening thats used in the black and white episodes today versus the original shown here... but study it carefully and you'll notice this opening has quite a few differences.

Here is the original syndicated opening from a mid season 2 episode as it appeared on Nick at Nite all throughout the 90s.

  • Also, are you sure the DVDs are the colorized versions of the episodes with the color turned off? The opening surely is, but the episodes themselves don't look it. Usually with colorized shows that have the color turned off, something seems a little off about the picture. But, on season 1 anyway, the black and white seems authentic.

  • @americarunsondunkin Positive. The contrast is much different on these episodes then before they were colorized. I have many of the B/W episodes before their 1999 colorization and they look a lot different. Plus, many of them have a greenish hue to them.

  • The differences in this are the houses, for one. They are more detailed here....The cartoon Samantha looks a bit different. Just look at the eyes, and you will see what I mean. EM's name is very diiferent by that it is a bolder font than that from in color. The kitchen...we have more cabinets, they stove is by itself, and the appearance of the actors' names are in a style that is a little different than that from the color. Yea...you can tell I watch this show A LOT! LOL

  • What i find interesting is the lack of nostril here during the nose twitch... that appears in the color DY opening... only to disappear again when DS entered in season 6.

  • During its actual original run on ABC, it wasn't until around Season 4 where you saw the line in the nostril when she twitches. So, in season 3, there was still a lack of nostril LOL

  • No way!?! I have to go back and watch my sponsor openings now. LOL.

  • i miss this show!!

  • Burn her at the stake!! >:O

  • This is the cleanest Season Two Opening print I have ever seen!

  • You are right about the DVDs and TV Land episodes. If any of you have the colorized DVDs of Bewitched, turn your TV to black and white....that is exactly what it looks like on the B&W DVDs and TV Land.

  • WGN does not show the first two seasons of Bewitched neither in black and white nor colorized. However, I find that strange, since they do show the first season of I Dream of Jeannie, which not only was in black and white, but also had a different theme.

  • @mickthemacdaddy what do you mean WGN America (the color episodes only) are you saying WGN doesn't air Seasons 1 & 2 or are you saying they air them in color instead of Black & White

  • Nick @ Nite had the original opening when they originally ran them from 1989 to 1991, then again from 1994 to 1996. Unfortunately, the change came when they remastered all the episodes in 2000. The results are seen on TV Land (both the b/w's & color eps. and on WGN America (the color episodes only).

  • I thought this was from a 1964 episode look at the roman numerals

  • Why didn't Sony clean up this intro instead we got Season 3 drained

    LAZY BASTARDS!

  • Sony should have restored this original intro but those bastards were too lazy to do so
