As a child, those flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz always scared the crap out of me. To this day, I'm still scared of flying monkeys. Fortunately, I have not encountered any. But, if I did, I'd be scared ... and so should you.

In Oz The Great And Powerful (the new one) the monkey are more scary than these ones and they also sound scary as a demon

I don't think the flying monkeys in "Oz, The Great and Powerful" are more scary because they really don't even look like monkeys. They look like some overdone, CGI creature that is not believable.

Wonderful Wicked Witch! But many people don't know that the great Margaret Hamilton was a kindergarden teacher in both New York and her native Cleveland, and was a Sunday School teacher in the Presbyterian church of which she was a long time member. Imagine....the Wicked Witch of the West a five point Calvinist!

    Interesting. I didn't know that.

In my opinion, I have never seen anybody play the role of a witch better. To this day, she is the standard by which all witches must meet. :)

How can anyone not be afraid of the flying monkeys? They scared me so much when I was a kid especially when they carried Dorothy to the Wicked Witch's castle

Uh, they don't look like typical monkeys because they are baboons. They probably did that so they could use a cuter monkey, the cappuccin monkey (don't know if I spelled it correctly) for Finley's design.

The reason they took Toto too was because, the witch wanted Dorothy and Toto. (Toto was the witches hostage to force Dorothy to give the witch back her ruby slippers or she would kill Toto).

I'm sure the witch put wings on them by magic so they could fly. However, that witch must not have been too powerful since she didn't have her ruby slippers with her which are powerful which was the reason why she's been after Dorothy all along so I wonder how she put wings on the monkeys with magic without the ruby slippers. Unless her sister (the wicked witch of the east) put wings on the monkeys before her sister died.

That's true. Those monkeys were probably very friendly who could love Dorothy but, they were forced to take orders by the witch. Just like the monkeys, I'm sure the guards were good guys too all along since as soon as the witch died, they were thanking Dorothy for killing the witch.

I wondered why she was screaming too. I guess she was either screaming because, those flying monkeys are scary to her, or she's afraid of heights, or she feels she's about to fall since her legs are hanging seen from 1:08-1:11 or maybe it's all three of these reasons.
