Video originally recorded on 01/19/2011

Yesterday on 01/19/2011, I went into a local electronics retailer to do some shopping. I accidentally stumbled upon a new headset made by Jawbone called the Jawbone Era. I had never heard anything about it being a user of Jawbone products from Aliph I thought I would pick it up to replace my current Bluetooth that was failing me.
Well I took it home and tried it out and it was pretty good. This was a headset that could be updated with software from the Jawbone "MyTalk" website which they initiated when they released the Jawbone ICON series of headsets. So I went to the plug my newly purchased headset into the computer on that very night I purchased it and it was not recognized by the "Jawbone updater," which is the program that syncs the Jawbone to your computer for software updates. I immediately took to the search engines and Jawbone product pages to check to see what the issue could be. I then realized there had not been any mention of this headset anywhere online including on the site of the manufacturer themselves and began to think that either the headset itself was being sold prior to announcement or Jawbone just made a catastrophic mistake to not get their website updated in a timely manner for the headset. So I did a video of the product late into the evening showing the product and going through the features and posted it on YouTube which was edited and processed sometime after midnight. This morning I woke up to see that the term "Jawbone ERA," is everywhere on search engines and websites alike and this writer may have had just got the scoop on video.

The Jawbone Era is the latest series of Bluetooth headsets from Jawbone and they seem to being going back to a slightly familiar design we saw in length with the Jawbone Prime and style with the Jawbone ICON with some added new changes of its own in design and features. The new ERA features Jawbone's latest version of noise cancellation technology called "Noise Assassin 3.0," which not only is supposed to improve the battle against background noise elimination even better but also can intelligently auto-adjust call volume based on the noise of your environment to lower or increase your volume based on level of noise in background.

Right on the box there is a feature listed as HD Audio and what that means is that Jawbone has encased a 10mm wide-band speaker that is sure to deliver louder volume than previous offerings from Jawbone headsets. The biggest change or revolution should I say is the "Motion X" technology and that is provided the first built-in accelerometer for a Bluetooth headset. Right now there are only 2 commands to take advantage of out of the box and they are the ability to tap twice outside of the headset to answer or end phone calls without actually pressing down on the multifunction button and the ability to place your headset in pairing mode to connect to another device simply by shaking your Jawbone ERA. The MyTalk website that Jawbone has will hopefully see updated commands be created in the future. Battery has improved from the 4.5 hours of talk-time in the ICON series to the 5.5 hours for the Era series which is also available in four different colors/designs. The package indicates that we should be able to listen to tweets, texts and emails and I will have to see how well they implement that across all smartphone platforms.

The current entry price for the device is listed as $130 and may seem a bit steep but those who want the latest and greatest or want to see what this accelerometer in a headset is all about may want to try this out.
