A one-night musical extravaganza featuring the CCP resident companies, together with first-class performing arts talents in this CCP 40th Anniversary Gala event on Sept. 8, the founding day of the CCP, headed by Conductor Laureate Oscar Yatco and Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. This gala event will fortify CCP as an icon and prime mover of artistic excellence.
LEADING PERFORMING ARTISTS TOPBILL CCP 40TH ANNIVERSARY GALA
Singers Bituin Escalante, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Celeste Legaspi, Jed Madela, and Leo Tavarro-Valdez topbill this months grand music and dance production to be presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) slated on February 27, 2009, 8:00 p.m. at the CCP Main Theater.
Billed as RUBIES: Gems in Philippine Performing Arts, the CCPs gala performance is one way of thanking the people/institutions who supported the CCP in its 40 years of existence. The concert is also held in celebration of the CCPs 40th Anniversary and the 2009 National Arts Month.
With "excellence of Filipino artists and original Filipino works" as the anniversary month theme, the production presents excellent and timeless Filipino music compositions ranging from the legendary Dularawan to the original Filipino operas La Loba Negra and La Boheme, to the timeless kundiman suites and sarsuwelas Paglipas ng Dilim, Dalagang Bukid, Ang Kiri, Magsimula Ka, and Larawan, among other works.
Joining the group are leading stage vocalists such as Aileen Espinosa-Cura, Andrew Fernando, Rachelle Gerodias, Randy Gilongo, Camille Lopez-Molina, Clarissa Ocampo, Shamaine Centenera, Bo Cerrudo, with prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, pianists Inna Montesclaros, Najib Ismail, and Zenas Lozada, child actor Elijah Castillo and noted film actor Robert Arevalo, together with CCPs resident companies--Ballet Philippines, Philippine Ballet Theater, Philippine Madrigal Singers, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Tanghalang Pilipino, and the UST Symphony Orchestra.
Other outstanding ensembles who will join in the production--Ballet Manila, Buganda Tribe Drumbeaters, Dansaficionados, Gantimpala Foundation, Inc., Kaloob Philippine Music and Dance Ministry, Metro Manila Community Orchestra (MMCO), Novo Concertante, Musikalinangan Phil. Gong & Bamboo Ensemble, PFDS Dance Ensemble, Ryan Cayabyab Singers, Sining Kumintang ng Batangas and Streetboys. CCP 2008 Gawad para sa Sining Awardee Monino Duque directs with script by Floy Quintos. Musical direction by Chino Toledo and Ryan Cayabyab.
