@rkalcocer11 This is a Beatles song, written by Paul in 1967.

pianojohn, your playing is impeccable, but I must ask, in view of your comment that Penny Lane "really isn't a piano song," what instrument do you think this song was originally composed on? I personally can't "hear it" composed on a guitar, so it must have been a piano. Thoughts?

@KUTVgroucho That's a great question, and I'm not really sure what it might have been done on originally. I suppose the piano may have been used to lay out the chords, but I've never seen another piano arrangement of the song, so I can't be sure. Alan Pollack noted that George Martin helped by adding flutes, brass, a piccolo, a bass fiddle, a fire bell, voices that mimic sirens, oboes, and overdubbed keyboard parts, but what the original sound was remains a mystery, at least to me!

@pianojohn113 i'm very confused by this because there is clearly piano on the song... You can hear it throughout the entire song. It's just a little drowned out at points cos of all the other instruments. so seeing as there is piano in this song, it shouldn't be a mystery. i'm guessing it was written on the piano. plus Paul wrote most of his songs on the piano. even the oldies that weren't record or performed on a piano.

@queerp You could be right. I don't really hear the piano part specifically, but I would imagine there is some somewhere, and it's entirely possible that Paul wrote it on the piano as well. I'll have to look up the history of the song and verify, I guess.
