If I had to guess, based upon the placement of the semaphores in the rear quarter and the rectangular front directional lams, I'd say it's actually one of the few BMW 327s made after WW2 This body style was made in small numbers up until 1953. Production started in 1937 and ~1800 were made. Nice looking example there - hope your dad dug it, too..
