I was sad to find out giving the middle finger is from Romans. His is funnier but I'll take the truth over colorful lies.

The whole "pluck yew" phrase is complete bullshit.
Fuck comes from Ficken and/or Norse Fukka
-
@jakec126 You know that did occur to me when I whatched this and I might almost let him off the hook except that he should know that this is wrong right off the bat. This isn't a legend it's a cute joke someone made up for fun. It's not a legend...we know where it comes from. He presents it as though it isn't known (and in fact he doesn't know)...if he had been like everyone heard the "pluck yew" but in reality it's german that would have been awesome.

@Limejello10512 - once again why he says "and that's the LEGEND of where the middle finger comes from"
-
This is bullshit this story. Shithouse accents by Wuhl too, by the way. It's an apocryphal story.
-
i would like to let everybody know that this is legend.. because who cares about facts
-
"Print the legend"
-
"and when legend becomes fact?!"
what's the reply?

actually traditional english archery uses 3 fingers the index, middle, and ring. after the bow was drawn to the chin the ring finger was released and only the index and middle finger remained on either side of the nock.
cutting off a middle finger probably wouldnt stop a determined bowman. i know a modern day man who lost a few digits, and hes one of the best shots i know.

I absolutely loved "Assume the Position." I have to pick up the DVD soon.
80% (really like 80%... three pages of a five page paper I wrote detailed what he got wrong...3 pages! single space!) of the stuff this guy said is wrong...he's not even a historian just a comedian!!!! (fuck comes from the german frechien meaning to strike, and the middle finger dates back to the 1st century BC at LATEST) and the french didn't do that.

Thanks for you comment.
He is there to entertain and the show is not meant to be a history lesson. However, although I won't assume everything he states is true, I believe 100% in the fact that the history that we are taught is it self not 100% true. I think that is the point he tries to make.
