2010 is International Year of Biodiversity and Kew is joining in the world-wide celebrations with over 300 UK organisations, charities and groups who are also in support of this global awareness campaign.

Despite all the doom and gloom that usually surrounds this topic, Im really pleased to say that weve got lots of positive news to share with everyone about the exciting work Kews scientists and horticulturists have been doing to save rare plants from the brink of extinction plus opportunities for you to play a role in saving our planet. Make sure you read our story about Kews top propagation code-breaker, horticulturist Carlos Magdalena, who cracked the enigma of growing a rare species of African waterlily and brought it back from the brink of extinction.

Were making progress and its good news all around but we still need your help so share our stories and please get involved by by adopting a seed at Kew's Millennium Seed Bank for just £25 or save an entire species outright.

  • i love this :)

  • Very nicer video. It really should be front and centre on the Kew Website homepage if you want to cure the misconceptions about Kew being 'Just a nice garden'. Instead the front page is all about the latest attractions in the gardens.

  • I just read about a mosquito eating plant in Uganda being investigated at Makerere University that might help in the fight against malaria - of course the species is endangered and could have disappeared before anyone investigated it. This is not luxury science, this is a matter of life and death

  • Awesome - love the vid!
