The opening sequence of The Natural History of the Chicken director: Mark Lewis, USA 2000 is good for close reading the following elements / media language terms for NCEA AS 3.2 Director's Study. Close read or rather listen to the various music tracks and decide first what feeling or idea/message about the doco is created by the style of music heard and then decide what the main purpose of using the selected music tracks is.Music to close read/listen to are: the prologue scene, the first story set in Maine and in the following scenes; - Fried Chicken car, Hatchery & Grow Out farm scene. Look too at how the doco is structured and how some shots are lit. Ask yourself why has the filmmaker chosen to film or edit these scenes in this way?
