Rama, the hero of the Ramayana, is a popular deity worshipped in the Hindu religion. Each year, many devout pilgrims trace his journey through India, halting at each of the holy sites along the way. The poem is not seen as just a literary monument, but serves as an integral part of Hinduism, and is held in such reverence that the mere reading or hearing of it, or certain passages of it, is believed by Hindus to free them from sin and bless the reader or listener.

According to Hindu (particularly the Vaishnava) tradition, Rama is an incarnation (Avatar) of the God Vishnu. The main purpose of this incarnation is to demonstrate the righteous path (dharma) for all living creatures on earth.

Arshia Sattar states that the central theme of the Ramayana, as well as the Mahabharata, is respectively Ram's and Krishna's hidden divinity and its progressive revelation.

I dont understand why Bollywood doesn't make movies on the Hindu epics without all the dancing and singing. I'd pay money to see that!

it's such an incredible story, I'm not religious at all but when I heard about this story I couldn't understand why not many people know about it. Making it into a film using some American actors would sound erroneous but it's not a bad idea, it's people they know and are good actors Gary Oldman is playing the Cosmic bully Ravana which isn't all that bad. Oh and I heard that Disney is planning on perhaps making it into there own animation.

I heard that hollywood is planning to make a film using Keanu Reeve as Prince Ramayan now I don't know if they are making the traditional story or a futuristic scify, but I think if they plan to make a movie about it I suppose the same director of 300 should do it. I am against the fact that hollywood sees it as a business, but understand also that not a lot of people have heard of the story of Ramayan, Hanuman. The majority don't even know who they are. I believe that they should be known
