At Mayor Newsom's January 13th "Town Hall" meeting at the Richmond Community Center, he had his staff try to intimidate six protesters wearing chicken suits. They wore chicken suits because Gavin has refused to meet with the Board of Supervisors like the voters asked him to in November. His staffers repeatedly asked the chickens to take their costumes off. But what cracked me up was their reasoning: they didn't want the chickens to disturb the "dialog" that was going to be happening. And the way they kept repeating "dialog," it was almost like they'd rehearsed it. See for yourself: Like the SpokesChicken said, it reminded me of the Bush Administration. They seemed to think if they called it a "dialog" enough times we would all be as convinced as they were that it was actually a dialog, and not the carefully controlled and scripted event we all witnessed.

  • So in San Francisco, you can march nude in a parade, but you can't attend a city meeting in a chicken costume? WTF? What a strange, strange place.

  • thnk you for giving me something to drink to =) ima watch this over and over till i am drunk!!! DIALOG!! #8!!!

  • It's terrible that people have to wear costumes in order to attend a city council meeting for the fear of retribution by the Mayor. Did the Mayor read books about Chicago Mayor Daily's tactics of stiffing decent?

PS, I think the chicken costumes are great for Gavin.

  • I'm all for pointing out the catch-phrase use of "dialog," but what I find most astonishing about this video is the use of the Mayor's staff "asking" in such a way that it is deemed to be a commandment until someone points out that they are only asking and they proceed inside. That was the best thing about this video.
