For the second one, couldn't you have just done (x+1)(x-6)=0 ?

my teacher gave me the formula x=-b over 2a so it looks like x=-b/2a and just plug in the numbers. but it just confuses me

@MissSmartCookie1 well, that only finds the x - coordinate of the vertex. it does not find the solutions / zeros / roots for the function

the first equation is wrong it should be [x=-2] or [x=-7]
