Windsor Spitfires forward Taylor Hall made his case for a spot at Canada's national junior camp next month.
The third-year forward had a goal and an assist, drew three penalties and was named his team's player-of-the-game in helping the Ontario Hockey League stars to a 5-2 win over Russia Monday before 6,353 at the WFCU Centre.
Russia has now dropped the first four games of the six-game Subway Canada-Russia Super Series and been outscore 21-8 in the process. The final two games will be played in the Western Hockey League.
Windsor's Adam Henrique opened the scoring with Spitfire teammates Hall and Greg Nemisz drawing assists as the trio played on a line. It was the only goal of the opening period as the OHL stars dominated with a 15-6 advantage in shots.
The OHL squad added a pair of power-play goals in the seocnd perid. Ottawa's Tyler Toffoli upped the lead to 2-0 and Hall made it 3-0 after 40 minutes with an unassisted power-play goal.
London's Nazem Kadri showed a great burst of speed and fended off a defender to score shorthanded for the only goal of the the third period to push the lead to 4-0.
Alexander Zalivin and Maxim Kitsyn drew the Russian's to within 4-2 late before LaSalle's Zack Kassian, who plays for Peterborough, sealed the game with a late power-play goal.
Former Spitfire goalie Matt Hackett, who now plays in Plymouth, played the entire game for the OHL and finished with 29 saves while Alexander Zalivin made 41 saves in the Russian net.
