NTFS has 13 permissions that can be assigned at the file or folder level. This video looks at how these permissions can be applied to files and folder to give you more control then what you could achieve using just the standard 6 basic NTFS permissions.

Share and NTFS Permissions used together
When the share and the NTFS permission are different the most restrictive permission will be used.
NTFS Special (Advanced) permissions
The name of the permission can change depending on weather it is assigned at the file or folder level. Regardless of the case, there is only ever 13 permissions that can be assigned to a file or folder.
List Folder/Read Data: See any file or folder name even if you don't have access.
Read attributes: Read basic attributes, read only, hidden, system and archive.
Read extended attributes: Allows reading of attributes (non standard) created by software.
Read permissions: Allows reading of the NTFS permissions.
Create files/write data: Folder level allows creating files. File level write to the file
Create folder/append data: Folder level allows sub folders to be created. File level allows data to be appended to a file.
Write attributes: Change basic attributes, read only, hidden, system and archive
Write extended attributes: Allows writing of attributes (non standard) created by software.
Traverse folder/Execute file: Traverses folder allows a sub folder to be access even when no allow permissions have been set above. Execute file allows the user to run an application like .exe files.
Delete: Allows the user to delete files or folders.
Delete Extended attributes: Allows deleting of attributes (non standard) created by software.
Changes permissions: Allows changing of the NTFS permissions.
Take ownership: Allows the user to change the ownership of the file.
