  • This is the thing most misunderstood by non-Aikidoka. All they see is the method of study, not the result or its application. Looking at Aikido from their view, I can't blame them for having major doubts. But then, there is still so much doubt & dissention within Aikido.

  • thanks for the info devoti. most people on youtube would have had something rude to say.

Surely better your hand gets cut than you get it in your face if its a real knife ?

  • when you understand the pratical applications of the techniques you will understand how effective it is and its alot better than most of the crap they have out there

  • wtf he tries to grab the knife with his hand ohh yeah its just a rubber knife that works 100% for sure!!

  • Now thats something I can relate to considering I study brazilian jujitsu. *And still suck at it* lol

  • That is unless you let your opponent destroy himself. That is aikido. They come at you, make the first move, and you take their force and put it into a painful joint lock they can't get out of without breaking something.

  • Hi

Traditional Aikido training begins with the mind and the body being calm and relaxed until they harmonise with each other. Your question of the throw being offensive is valid.

But you must see it as throwing the arguement or attack back to the assailant in a smooth controlled flowing action.

His brick wall will meet your relaxed and harmonised mind & body and he will be damaged mentally , physically or both.

I hope this goes someway to explaining your question.

  • Sawada Hanae has been training for nearly seventy years. She holds the hanshi certification from the All-Japan Naginata Federation, and teaches both atarashii naginata and Tendo-ryu in Tokyo. Meik Skoss has been a student of Sawada Sensei in Tendo-ryu since 1976. This interview was conducted on December 9, 1996 at the Shinjuku Naginata Dojo.

Found that on the web for ya.
