Franz Joseph Haydn is considered the father of the symphony and the string quartet. He might also be historys most underrated composer. As the music world marks the bicentennial of Haydn's death, we explore how the composers gift for humor may be at the root of why hes not taken seriously. Austria's Haydn Trio Eisenstadt join us to perform two of their namesakes works. Also with us is Fred Plotkin, author of several books on music including Classical Music 101.

A very fine performance by one of the best trio ensembles around. I heard them live in London shortly before this clip was recorded, and they were magnificent. PIty about the spectacularly inept camera work, but I suppose you can't expect much from a radio studio!
