they hardly ever use the y link, what a waste of money and time.i still have to change at granville everyday which is what the y link was supposed to change but did'nt.

That year was a fucken disaster for Sydney rail! Im surprised we didnt have another Granville in 1996! Brian Langton can go back to his pen & pull himself, trying to patronise the commuting public!
Were still stuck in 1975 for rail progress!

Thanks a lot Brian Langton you corrupt rat! Thanks for a few extra services! Thats all were getting, hey! How about the rail link to the Hills area we've been waiting for since "1975" or the rail link out to Maroubra we've been waiting for since "1979" that Neville Wran cut back because he was a moron too! Or how about giving us a rail link to the Northern Beaches while we get stuck in gridlock daily because of your prehistoric Spit Bridge! So the big news is "more services!"
Woop- diddy-do!

Big whoop. Its a countrylink XPT, a State Rail Authority service just like CityRail. Moreover - who cares?
That was the November 1996 timetable. And - it was a total, utter disaster.
The timetable was completely unreliable and dumped within weeks, reverting to the previous timetable, which was slightly modified. And now the Cumberland line only sees 3 or 4 trains per day in each direction.
It is interesting to compare the tone of the report with today's stories. Channel 7's report here was remarkably optimistic. These days, they do their utmost to find fault with the railway.
