Frank Wess's solo on "Corner Pocket" from way back in the 50's has never been matched by any other tenor sax man that has sat in Frank's chair after he departed the Basie band. Frank was so cool. The guys who played back in that period known as the "Swingin' Years" ... say from 1935 to 1945 ... well, those guys could swing. I find that a lot of the guys playing today are a bit more mechanical in their approach to swing ... maybe more bop instead of swing. Frank Wess, born 1/4/22, still here.
Very pretty!
